Company History
John A Vassilaros & Son was founded in 1919 by John Vassilaros. John immigrated to the United States in 1904 from Greece. After arriving at Ellis Island and settling in New York City his first job was with a Coffee Company as a salesman in New York City. After 15 years as a coffee salesman John was inspired to start his own coffee company due the poor quality of coffee his employer was roasting and selling too their commercial clients. John knew beyond any shadow of a doubt, that he could provide a better quality coffee than his employer, a poor quality over roasted coffee. So in 1919 on 3rd Avenue in lower Manhattan, Vassilaros Coffee was born. John had taken his 15 years of experience in the Coffee business to the next level. And so his search for the perfect cup of coffee began. He borrowed some money, purchased a roaster and began the painstaking task of green bean selection, roasting, blending, grinding, cupping and ultimately brewing. When you taste a cup of Vassilaros Coffee, you taste the fruits of John Vassilaros's labor all those years ago. Green bean selection, roasting and blending is an art and a science and no two people or companies roast alike. The art and science of this ever so delicate task of coffee roasting perfected by John Vassilaros almost 100 years ago has been past down from generation to generation, from father to son to grandson. Today John Vassilaros carries on his grandfather's tradition and methods of roasting consistent quality coffee week in and week out.

Coffee is in the Vassilaros family blood. We are committed to excellence. No blend or batch of coffee will ever make it past the front door of the Vassilaros factory without first passing the taste test of John Vassilaros. John is a fanatic about his coffee. The pride he takes in every batch is unsurpassed in the coffee industry. Before John puts the Vassilaros label on it must pass the Vassilaros taste test. After all, his grandfather’s reputation is on the line. Take the taste test, once you do you will be hooked.
